Diablo III barbarian celebration

Okay, so in honor or Diablo III coming out this Tuesday. I'm doing a quick scene with a barbarian I purchased from CMON a while back. It's a limited edition so I was saving it for something special. I plan on spending tomorrow afternoon painting it before midnight. My own way of preparing of what's to come the following month(s)..smashing skulls!! RAWR!! Here's what I have come up with. Hope you like it. Will post the end result tomorrow *crosses fingers*. Just some quick info on the barrels in clay pots. The barrels are from local hobby shop (Hobby Lobby). The clay pots are actually wooden spindles I cut down and trimmed. Enjoy!

IG/Gundam Base update

Quick update..managed to use some expanding foam called "Great Stuff" to fill in some space between the walls and etc. Put up the walls and threw in some broken up pieces of hydrocal and cork board. Also added some broken up pieces off wood (about same size as wood match sticks)..and bent up a few pipes to add more. Tomrrow hope to finish up with the big rubble and start adding smaller rubble. Maybe tomorrow I'll get more in depth on what been doing...just too tired tonight.

I.G./Gundam sketches

All fear my awesome drawing skillz!! Haha j/k! Okay so I tried to do a few sketches of what could possibly do with the base for the group project Vadren and I are doing. Discussed with him some what we could do and this is what came up with so far.

Here's a view of how we was thinking could have the gundam standing between two destroyed buildings.

This is a top view of the base and I tried to think of good spots for each solider to compliment the scene. Actually have them labeled to specifically place at Alpha locations on base. In my head this project will look great. If only it was that easy ;)

Also sorry if have trouble reading my writings. Threw these together in about 30 mins. Thanks for looking.

IG/Gundam Base

Managed to get started on the base for the group project Vadren and I are doing. Picked up a cheap wooden picture frame for 10 bucks from wally world. Cut out some insulation foam had laying around and put a little bit of PVA glue on the inside of the frame to help bond it together. Not sure exactly where the placement will be for my IG but I'm going to do a few rough sketches of my units and Vadrens Gundam...Looking forward to this build. On a side note..Vadrens wife ordered my first ever Gundam. It should be here tomorrow sometime. It's Called FAZZ. I'm new to Gundams so not sure all the technical lingo with it. So hopefully after this build can crack open this box and put together my first Gundam. Here's the pics of WIP base. Time for bed. Good night.

Imperial Guard - Group project

Okay, well figured might as well keep posting/blogging while I'm on a roll. Here are some pics of Imperial Guards from Games Workshop I'm currently working on. My buddy Vadren came up with the idea that we do a group project. He's primarily done Gundam models as where I've only done miniatures...except for model cars..but yeah. So we did some brainstorming and decided to create a dio with a Gundam and Imperial Guard. The scene will involve a squad of IG and Gundam moving through a destroyed city. There will be rubble, ruined bldg and all the goodies you need to show a destroyed street. For now though here's what I have. Feel free to go over to Vadrens site and see where his progress is. Enjoy!

Dark Age Stinger

Here is my latest completed miniature. It was intended for  to be entered in the CMON Dark Age Games Blood Bath competition...Unfortunately I missed the deadline by one day. He is missing blood hence idea behind the competition..but since I didn't make the competition in time I decided to leave him be. I like the colors and didn't want to obscure them with blood splatter. Dark Age has a lot of great looking minis and surprisingly there wasn't much clean up required for the mini. Overall, I'm sure I'll finish the other two that came in the pack. Just for now they'll just have to wait. Here he is..enjoy and thanks for looking.

Oils

Well decided recently to give my hand at using oil paints..wow! Big difference vs Acrylics. Looking back I'm surprised never used oils until now. Even in Art class we never explored in using paints. After looking at the price tag on oils can see why. I managed to pick up a starter set from local hobby store for around twenty five bucks. Have to say I really like using oils on larger size minis (tried on 28mm and was horrible). My first test with oils was on the Brom Bust from Enigma miniatures. Great sculpt and surprisingly no mold lines that I could find. As I'm still a newbie with oils didn't quite use them as well as should have. Managed to use Linseed oil a bit more than should I'm thinking. Brom came out looking like I sprayed him down with baby oil or something. Either way decided to pick up some matte finish in a bottle that I used to spray on with my airbrush. He still has a bit of shine to him. There is some areas I could touchup and finish I'm sure...but I just wanted to see how I could do with oils. Blending was a breeze vs Acrylics. Only downside the drying time...went and picked up a hair dryer hoping this would help. Sure I looked weird at the store with a hairdryer and having no hair. Well here he is..enjoy! Thanks for looking btw!

Room cleaning/organizing

So, as I sat here working on my current project I couldn't focus because of my hobby room was in such a mess. As it was something that was going to constantly annoy me I decided to do something about it. Voila! Picked up a few more cabinets from Wally world and decided to label and re-organize everything within them. Now each drawer has related items. No more digging through piles of foliage to get to my bags of sand/dirt. They have their own drawer now. Even separated my Warhammer from Warhammer 40k miniatures and created a misc drawer for minis from cmon, rbg, dark age, etc. O.C.D. you think? Nah, I just got tired of looking for certain minis of each game.  So here's my clean (not sure how long) room.

Chaos Knight WIP

Made some progress tonight on my chaos knight. Took some pics although my camera phone just isn't doing it justice. The color really pops in person...only thing that comes to mind when I look at this color combo is "The Joker" haha. Seriously thinking of doing some blending of black/grey into the horse skin to help the colors compliment each other better. They're split complimentary..just isn't looking quite rite yet to me. Maybe tomorrow I can get them to flow better together.

On another note I recently picked up a set of Space Marine Grey knights and Space Marine Space Wolves set from a local comic book store (which rocks btw!).  Looking forward to having a go with my airbrush on the Grey Knights. Want to give them some OSL affects and etc. Not sure how I want to create the bases yet..The lava bases are getting a bit played out imo. Sure it's liquid hot MAGMA!! Meh! Watch me create lava bases...LOL!

Been a busy little bee!

It's been a while since I've posted anything but doesn't mean I quit painting. On the contrary quite the opposite...okay so that isn't exactly true. Nowwww I might have been somewhat side tracked by playing SWTOR (Star Wars of The Old Republic) *shrugs* who hasn't? Great game btw!! Okay so onto my current WIP and a few finished minis. These were done primarily for table top standard. Might throw them up on Ebay or take them to local hobby shop store and see if have any locals interested. Gotta support my local gamers :)

Here is my WIP that finally decided to dust off and remove the bottom shelf of my cabinet. I can't explain how many colors I used to just achieve what I have so far. Might push the highlights some more to help balance out. So far I'm pleased with how it's looking.

Here is a table top standard of Krell, Lord of Undeath. He's a new miniature from GW (Games Workshop). Overall this miniature wasn't a pain to assemble since its just his axe and head you have to glue on. It is however from their "Finecast" line and I was rather skeptical about painting/handling it since I've read quite a bit of negative reviews about the quality. Luckily this cast wasn't that bad. had a little bit of flash had to clean..Only gripe I had was the axe was bent slightly and I had to bend it back repeatedly until it stayed. Although I did see a tutorial on how to fix this with a hair dryer thanks to Ana aka Paintingmum

Here is a Wight Knight from GW as well. This isn't part of their Finecast line and the cast was very durable and assembled fairly well. Just wasn't able to fully assemble until was finished painting the torso then I could put on his arm holding the sword as well cloak corner piece. Overall it was a fun mini to paint and I'm sure I'll pick up another one.

Okay, here she is..err I mean he. I really enjoyed painting this Space Marine. Great pose and there is so much you can do with those claws! Spent a bit more time on this one since wanted to work on my layering of colors. Blue is a pain in the ass..so my hats of to those out there that can pull it off. My intentions were to put this guy up for sale..but it's going to be like asking a kid to get rid of their new puppy. Either way it was a joy to paint this marine and look forward to having another go at him..maybe do a white scars version next time with battle dmg. *shrugs*

btw I didn't paint a logo on his shoulder cause I'm not good at Freehand yet..and didn't want to put a decal on  him. that's like putting a vinyl decal on a new Z06 vet..oh wait they do that now..sigh WHYYYY!!!
